Cue the Trumpet Fanfare!

Cindy over at Haley's Cottage has just let the cat out of the bag:
She's opening a second Haley's Cottage store!

Check out her recent blog post for more info.

Her new digs will be smack-dab in the center of Kirkland on the tony Eastside. {East side of Lake Washington, for those not in the Seattle area} Surounded by chic boutiques, galleries, swanky nightspots and fabulous restaurants, this town is a perfect location for her marvelous shop filled with beautiful and stylish art, decor, fashion, and gifts.

We are contributing some of our furnishings to her new shop, so you'll be able to find Retreat products every day, at Haley's Cottage in Mill Creek AND in the charming town of Kirkland. We'll share more as things develop!

Party Hat?

We stopped in to visit with Cindy at haley's cottage last week...
and oh, my , folks, you really should get in there and see how lovely the shoppe is! Her post-Holiday / winter-into-spring decor & displays will just perk you right up and inspire you to freshen up your homes.

We loved seeing one of our unique lampshades 'worn' by a mannequin - was this a New Years' Eve party hat, perhaps?!  It's whimsical and imaginative touches like this that add to the wonderful atmosphere of Cindy's shoppe. So easy to do this in your homes, as well... even the smallest changes can bring a big impact and a smile to your face every day. That's what decorating is supposed to be all about - making you happy in your rooms.

We are so blessed that Cindy has found our products to be complimentary to her style! {And while we were there, 'a little birdie' told us about some exciting news coming soon from haley's cottage, so stay tuned here for an update when it breaks!}

bittersweet

There's a room full of sweetness waiting and a party goin' on at Poppyseeds!

In celebration of a new year, Valentine's Day, and spring, we have filled our room at the shop with lots of white & pink delicacies. You'll find vintage products and handmade items created from vintage & reclaimed components. It's really over the top cute, and we feel it's only fair to warn you that this room could cause cavities.;0) I was inspired by my eighth birthday party, all the way down to the kitchen setting and the pink crepe paper streamers.... my mom will be shocked that I remember it, I'm sure, but it was a little girls' dream!

Now for the bittersweet part...
Retreat will be leaving Poppyseeds at the end of January. We adore owners MaryBeth & Julie, and have really loved being part of our local community by having this space in their shop, but it's time to move forward with other parts of our business plan. (this gives them more room for their fabulous furnishings & decor, too!)

Retreat's last day at Poppyseeds will be Wednesday, January 28th,
so you only have 22 days to get our sweet stuff there! This is the last colorful, themed display you'll see from us, as well... Retreat's palette and style will be much more refined and relaxing for the coming year. Poppyseeds is such a colorful, cute shop, we had to do one last blast before leaving!

Poppyseeds is located on Hwy. 532 West in Stanwood, WA. just 20 minutes North of Everett (60 minutes North of Seattle). The shop is open M -W -Th - Fri - Sat from 10:30 to 5:00 PM, and Sunday from 12:30 to 4:30 PM. Closed Tuesdays.  Call 360.629.SEED (7333) for more info. Visit http://poppyseedshop.blogspot.com.

'As Seen On:'

Whenever we are lucky enough to have our products featured in a shop or mentioned on a blog, we add the link to our sidebar 'As Seen On' section. We hope this helps you easily see where Retreat has appeared or may still be available. On Monday, while enjoying a little 'down time', we were thrilled to find one of our tables serving up beautiful goods at

in Seattle's University Village shopping center. RG's owner Gillian bought it from us at August's Sand Point Market, and it's a great addition to the rustic & funky display fixture arsenal in this trend-setting Seattle home & garden store. We really love having such creative shop owners as clients, and we know their customers appreciate the unique style they seek out for their stores. When in Seattle, make sure you visit Ravenna Gardens!

If you are a shop owner searching for unique furnishings to use as display fixtures or to sell in your shop, please drop us a line at kennedy2design @ gmail.com. Let us tell you about our completely original designs, utilizing reclaimed & recycled materials to create unique new furnishings. We are always seeking representation in quality home, gift, garden, and vintage-style shops.

Playin' a Holiday Tune at Haley's Cottage

Cindy at Haley's Cottage has been a very busy gal, getting her darling shop ready for Saturday's Holiday Open House... she's added a bunch of sparkle and bling everywhere in the shop, including on our Swanky Piano Bar! Can't you just see her as the star of a White Christmas Holiday party, serving up white cosmos and gin tonics? I love that snowflake backdrop, too. Cindy is also carrying several of our lamps in her shop, all with one of a kind lampshades we've created.

On Saturday, while Cindy and a bevy of artisans who provide their wares for the shop are gathered to enjoy visiting with customers and toasting the season, we'll be in a cold hangar in Seattle setting up our booth for the Sand Point Antique & Design Show on Sunday.

So, we hope you will plan to visit Haley's Cottage in Mill Creek on Saturday, and Sand Point in the University District on Sunday. Just tell 'em Retreat sent you!

Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Eater....

And you almost COULD eat these, they are so yummy! There were just a few of my original Sweet Sweater Pumpkins left after Sunday's show... they are now available at Poppyseeds in Stanwood. Get 'em quick! (Priced from $4 to $25 dollars each.)

New Additions....

Just in today at our room in Poppyseeds:

*A 4' diameter round vintage metal table (repainted with a weathered light gray finish; has central umbrella hole) that would work splendidly outdoors, indoors, or as a retail display fixture (you can run electric lines for lamps up thru the hole!) priced at $95. Table top easily separates from legs for transport.

*A very comfortable rocking chair, spacious enough for a man but with curvy lines that girls love, can be yours for $145. The seat has a burlap slipcover over it - but beneath it, the original upholstery is in perfect condition! It's a small floral in ivory, gray, and pink. Here's a closer look at the rocking chair...*A simple desk or dressing table, made from solid hardwood with original brass hardware. We did paint over the hardware! (it was bright finish brass - sturdy and long-lasting, but not quite fashionable anymore). Seven drawers - two file-size - offer plenty of storage in this slim-profile piece of furniture. Priced at $135. (Center drawer shown opened). The gray vintage chair is $55.
*The magnificent solid wood 'Butler's Table' or 'Hall Tree', made from an antique front door from Seattle, a leg & trim from an Eastlake table, and hooks from a century-old building in Texas, is still available! It features a painted 'weathered' gray finish and white trimwork, and the vintage mirror (not permanently attached) is included! (The fencing mask is not included - but it would make a FABulous Halloween mask!) Priced at $325., this is a one of a kind statement piece with functionality and beauty.
You can view any of these pieces and more at Poppyseeds, a home decor boutique in Stanwood, Washington. Visit their blog for hours & directions, or give Julie a call in the store at 360.629.7333 to purchase via credit card.

We'll be setting up at Sand Point in Seattle on Saturday, and I'll try to get some 'sneak peeks' of our booth displays on here Saturday night for you. Plan to come see us Sunday! We have even more wonderful new things for you there...

Foofy French SoFa Deja Vu!

If you are reading this post anywhere other than a site/page that is licensed/owned/maintained by KENNEDY|kennedy Design, you are viewing stolen content that is being used without permission.

A week ago, we included this b.e.a.utimous French-style vintage sofa in our offerings at the French Flea Market. (see more photos in the post below). She was admired, whispered about, and then purchased - by a very sweet lady. Others sighed in defeat as they saw the sold sign, and then watched her leave. Well, through a very serendipitous and convoluted series of events, this suave and stylish vintage sofa is now AVAILABLE again!!!!!

Here's what happened (in a nutshell):
She went home with Miss V. But didn't quite fit. So, Miss V put her on Craigslist. MaryBeth saw the ad, told me about it, and asked if I wanted it back. I have NO WHERE to store it, so I said no. Then MB asked if it was OK with me if she got the sofa and put it in her shop. I said yes, she did, and it's at Poppyseeds now! A very special girl, Miss A, admired the sofa at the show, so I told MB that she might still want it. MB emailed Miss A to tell her it's in the store. If Miss A doesn't come get it quick, she can be all yours! ** Miss A posted on her blog Thursday that she's going to let this one go.... so if you've been drooling over her, miss Sofa can be yours!**

As a matter of fact, we are rearranging furniture tomorrow morning to make miss sofa the star in the front room, along with a plethora of fun fall & Halloween decor!

Cozy

With changing weather comes a change in our lifestyles, and this is a great time to cozy up our homes for the coming season. Fall is here and we have some wonderful inspiration for you! Visit our space at Poppyseeds Home Décor Boutique in Stanwood for some of our Fall Decor products.

The most popular design trend right now is Euro/Danish/Swedish Style… a lovely blend of the rusticity of farmhouses, the elegance of European antiques, and the cutting edge of vintage industrial influences. Mix them all together, and you have a fresh way to enjoy Traditional style. Even if you aren't into a house full of antiques, this style is a great way to add character and a sense of history to your rooms. Just one fabulous piece of furniture and the subdued palette of this style will bring it up to date!

Washed in pale, ethereal colors like morning mist gray, fog white, and swaying wheat, this is the new look for Fall and Winter. The colors of nature are brought inside and warmed with fire & candlelight and crystal chandeliers, resulting in warm rooms that feel cozy but live spaciously.

Texture plays a huge role in this style: From sleek silks and satins, to comfortable cotton and linen, to rough burlap and jute, fabrics add dimension and interest. Silver metal and crystal accessories add sparkle and reflect warm light – they truly are the jewelry of your home!

With a subdued palette, your rooms will feel larger and less confining during the coming months of cold weather. It’s easy to incorporate your own décor elements for the upcoming holidays into this style, too… and we’ll be bringing you more ideas & inspiration for holiday decorating soon!

*Don't forget to put our next event on your calendar: Retreat will be bringing more of our wonderful seasonal accents and delicious furnishings to the French Flea Market at Haley's Cottage in Mill Creek, Saturday September 12. Show hours: 10 AM to 8 PM. Click the link on our sidebar for more info!

I Spy.....

We went to Mill Creek on Saturday, to visit Cindy's shop Haley's Cottage. Previous incarnations of this beautiful home decor emporium have been in Snohomish and Bellevue Square, and now it's located in Mill Creek Town Center, at 1502 Main Street.

While we were in the store, I spied this sweet cherub wearing one of my Junk Queen Crowns! Cindy bought quite a few things from us at Farm Chicks, and they are now available in her store.... the drum lampshade with the ruffled ribbon trim, a few lamps with music sheet collage shades.... what fun to see them here, awaiting a new home!

Isn't she charming?!

We went there to scope out the parking lot... no, no highjinks after dark are planned, no junk raids or dumpster diving! Cindy will be hosting a French Flea Market event in September, and we are participating in it. We wanted to get a look at the parking lot so Bob could plan his assault with the trailer for load-in on the morning of the event. We are talking a VERY early morning load in, so being prepared is important for his state of mind. Please plan on attending the Clock Tower French Flea Market on September 12 from 10 AM to 8 PM. Click the link in the sidebar, which will take you right to Cindy's blog for more info!

I Spy!

I was perusing Tamara's blog (Tamara reads my design blog) and ran across her lovely post about a romantic a day in Victoria, B.C. (It's a very romantic place!) She mentioned a shop that she had discovered there, and showed a few photos. I'm sharing it here because of that photo above ^.... that's one of Bob's original creations, and it's sitting outside of French Vanilla in Victoria, B.C.!
Owner Sheila came down to the lower 48 to shop at the Farm Chicks show, and that's where we met her. She purchased the bench, which Bob made from two Hitchcock chairs, and a few other items from us. It's nice to see where our creations end up!
